A note concerning sound quality. The sound quality for the shows in this collection is very good to good. It is difficult to find perfect recordings from the golden age of radio due to the equipment used for recording and the fact that many of the recordings were made 60, 70 or even 80 years ago.

"D-DAY"

THE COMPLETE CBS RADIO BROADCAST DAY ON JUNE 06, 1944 AND INTO THE WEE HOURS OF JUNE 07, 1944 - EASTERN WAR TIME - ALL ON 1 CD!

Early in the morning of June 6th, 1944, there was word that the Allied invasion of "Fortress Europe" had begun. The source - The Third Reich. Confirmation was not available from Allied sources.

CBS as well as other news organizations had been on duty, around-the-clock to cover and monitor the story.

The presentation on this CD covers a 24 hour broadcast of the CBS Radio Network as CBS confirmed the story and provided coverage. You will hear CBS News reporter Bob Trout leave his studio to provide bits and pieces of the latest information as it became available, leading to complete coverage from a wide array of CBS reporters during the rest of the broadcast day.

This is truly a historic piece of broadcast history!

On June 06, 1944, The Battle of Normandy, code-named Operation Overlord, began with Allied forces invading Nazi-occupied Western Europe. Over seventy years later, the Normandy invasion remains the largest seaborne invasion in history, involving almost three million troops crossing the English Channel from England to Normandy in occupied France.

The Normandy invasion began with overnight paratrooper and glider landings, massive air and naval bombardments, and an early-morning amphibious assault. The battle for Normandy continued over more than two months, with campaigns to establish, expand, and eventually break out of the Allied beachheads. It concluded with the surrender of Paris and the fall of the Chambois pocket.

"D-Day" is still used to refer to the starting date of the invasion, and the opening day of the Battle of Normandy: June 06, 1944.
